Get ready for Western Cider's Wassail celebration by creating an Old World clay cup using the pinch method at The Clay Studio of Missoula on January 9th and 10th at 6pm! Your cup will be fired and ready before the big party. Bring your clay cup to Wassail at Western Cider on January 31st and get your first drink free!
Western Cider hosts their eighth annual WASSAIL, a traditional celebration to raise the winter spirit of the community. The purpose of this ritual is to ensure a bounty of apples for the coming season. Everyone is encouraged to attend the festivities in Old World costumes. The festivities will include costumed pageantry, theater, music, and drinking around fires in their outdoor cider garden. The clay cups (or "clayen cups") were traditionally used to scoop warm cider out of the "Wassail Cup", which is the massive, ceremonial bowl that is integral to the celebration. It will all make sense when you're there!
